General Summary:

Develops and tests machinery and equipment under direction of engineering and scientific staff by performing the following duties. Field travel is required to start up and service burners.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned, as requested or required.

  1. Analyze equipment to determine the reason for improper functioning and take steps to resolve issue.
  2. Perform the initial start up of burners by following installation and maintenance manual procedures.
  3. Review project instructions and blueprints to ascertain test specifications, procedures, objectives, test equipment, nature of technical problem, and possible solutions such as part redesign, substitution of material or parts, or rearrangement of parts or subassemblies.
  4. Assemble new as-field modified mechanical components or assemblies for products such as industrial equipment and machinery, power equipment, and servo systems.
  5. Set up and conduct tests of complete units and components under operational conditions to investigate design proposals for improving equipment performance or other factors, or to obtain data for development, standardization, and quality control.
  6. Analyzes indicated and calculated test results in relation to design or rated specifications and test objectives, and modifies or adjusts equipment to meet specifications.
  7. Records test procedures and results.
  8. Must be proficient in using and modifying Microsoft Word and Excel documents.

Education/Experience:

Technology/Engineering degree with two to five years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  1. Reasoning ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  2. Mathematical development to perform the four basic arithmetic operations as well as compute rate, ratio, and percent using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  3. Language development: - Read and interpret safety rules, instructions, manuals, order forms, or checklists; - Write routine reports and correspondence; - Communicate effectively with coworkers
  4. Basic knowledge of the use and operation of hand tools, air tools, electrical tools, and computers.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms and; climb or balance. The employee is occasionally required to walk, sit, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

While performing the essential functions of this job the employee is regularly exposed to a moderate to high noise level, fumes, chemicals, work near moving objects, heavy equipment, and vibration from air power equipment. Building is heated during winter and during the summer temperatures will exceed outside ambient temperatures. Temperature fluctuations may also be caused by equipment in the area. Work may be out in the elements.
