General Summary:

Develops detailed design drawings and related specifications of electrical equipment by use of Computer-Aided Design software.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned, as requested or required.

  1. Analyzes engineering sketches, specifications, and related data and drawings to determine design factors such as size and arrangement of parts on drawings.
  2. Sketches rough layout for ladder style diagrams
  3. Drafts detailed drawing of panel wiring subassemblies
  4. Modifies design to correct operating deficiencies or to reduce production problems
  5. Answers manufacturing/engineering questions during production to ensure compliance with design specifications
  6. Uses computer-assisted design/drafting equipment and software to develop designs
  7. Prepares and maintains computerized record system providing selections and options for drawings


To successfully fulfill the responsibilities of this position, the individual should have attained an Associate’s Degree (A.S. or A.A.) from a two-year college or technical school and have six months to one year of related work experience. Equivalent education and experience may be substituted. Those with 4-year Engineering Degrees will be called CAD Engineers.

  • Knowledge of and skill in operating office equipment including personal computer, Computer Assisted Design software, and word processing software.
  • Ability to communicate with company employees, co-workers, management and customers in an efficient, courteous, and professional manner.
  • Ability to compile data, define problems, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to apply attention to detail.

  • Must be able to stand and walk to office equipment and other areas within the facility 10% of time.
  • Must be able to sit 75% of time.
  • Must be able to use hands and fingers to handle and feel and operate telephones, keyboards, buttons on office equipment 100% of time.
  • Must be able to reach with hands and arms 100% of time.
  • Must be able to kneel or crouch to reach supplies, file drawers, cabinets 10% of time.
  • Must be able to talk and hear 100% of time.

Physical Dimensions:

The employee in this job is required to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally; up to 5 pounds of force frequently and up to 2 pounds of force regularly.

Work Environment:

The employee in this job is regularly in a business office environment with moderate noise from office equipment and people traffic.
